I wrote this with the idea of impermanence in mind. One of the most powerful things about Ash Wednesday is that we are confronting the finitude of our time on earth and that can be overwhelming. We are also taking stock of the things that are keeping us down and or holding us back; and so this song looks at both of those things but actually on a level where we can not only accept that change is a natural and normal part of our lives, but also a state that we can enter into and be more aware of.
